I already know that your favorite time is your massage time. Perhaps it’s your time to vent, laugh, cry, or zone out. Your massage session is catered to what you want, and we take our cues from you. But, did you know that you could get MORE out of your session, possibly making more progress in your overall well being? Let’s jump into how you can amp up your massage routine.
Mindfulness is the ability to pay attention to the present moment with curiosity and openness, without judging or reacting to it. It’s just a simple “Okay I notice that.” Practicing mindfulness before, during and after a massage session can help you get the most out of it.
Before the session: Arrive early and spend 5 minutes alone, setting an intention for what you want to achieve. For example- zone out, relieve pain, release emotions even. Communicate these to your therapist. Spending time beforehand starts the process of focus and relaxation, and allows us to establish a more direct and catered treatment plan.
During the session, focus on your breath, body sensations and feelings. Notice how the massage therapist’s touch affects your muscles, skin, nerves and emotions. Relax fully into the table, and if you notice yourself tensing up, take a slow deep breath. Don’t forget- you can always ask us to lighten the pressure! Awareness and communication with your therapist during the session will allow you to notice more, and us to specifically cater our care on each area of your body.
After the session, take some time to reflect on your experience. Don’t hesitate to send us a follow-up message of your experience so that we can connect certain techniques we used with positive outcomes from your session. Checking in with yourself after your session is imperative to building your massage sessions and routine to match your wellness needs and expectations.
If you’re thinking to yourself “Oh, there is no way I will be able to be quiet and still for my massage”, you are not alone. While general conversation during your session is normal and completely okay, If you’d like to be more mindful during your massage, tell me! I am here to help you get the most out of each and every massage. I can help direct the conversation to the area that we’re working on, possibly assist in breathing reminders, or ask prompting questions. We can also eliminate conversation completely, and let you zone in 100% on your experience.
You’re massage is more than just releasing muscle tension, and together with the right tools, information, and communication we can work towards a well rounded, and balanced health and wellness plan for you.
